Hot-Shooting Wildcats win 96-75 in Georgia

The JWU Wildcats used 14 three-pointers to spark a 96-75 road victory over fellow NAIA member Point University on Halloween night.    JWU had five players finish with

The Wildcats raced out to 10-2 lead to start the game and never relinquished their lead thereafter.   Jr. Frank Bennett (Naples FL) and Sr. Jumaoke Smith (Miami FL) heat up from downtown while Jr. Ricky Suarez (Miami FL) attacked the basket for buckets.   Bennett and Smith hit back to back threes to push the Wildcats lead to 28-14.   Suarez and Sr. Antwan Hill (Chicago IL) sparked the defense with deflections and steals that led to layups down the other end.   One of the steals set up a alley-oop dunk from Smith to Jr. Tevis Robinson (Ypsilanti MI) that helped put JWU up 45-27 at the break.   Suarez led the Cats with 12 points at the break.  

The halftime break didn't slow the Wildcats run at all.   The defense picked up where it left off and the Wildcats only got hotter from the field on offense.   With the Wildcats maintaining a fifteen to twenty point lead throughout the first five minutes of the half Bennett blew open the game with three consecutive 3-pointers to give JWU a 72-47 lead.   JWU led by as many as 29 points as they emptied their bench for the final six minutes of the game.

"We put together two halves tonight which was our goal tonight.   We had played well in the preseason and in our first game for portions of the games however we had too many lulls.   We talked about playing with consistency and we did that.  Once again, I am proud of our extra passing tonight that led to 22 assists" said Coach David Graham

Suarez went 8 of 9 from the field to finish with 20 point 5 rebounds and 5 assists.   Bennett had five threes and 17 points.   Robinson had 15 points and 5 rebounds.

The Wildcats open the home schedule on Thursday November 5 at 7pm when they host Florida National University.
