Wildcats Race Past NAIA #9 Keiser University

The JWU Wildcats took down the #9 NAIA team in the country Keiser University, 87-73, as they extended their conference win streak to seven games.   JWU is now 8-2 in the Sun Conference.

The Wildcats and Keiser were tied at 7-7 a few minutes into the game but slowly the Wildcats built a double digit lead behind the hot shooting of Sr. Jumaoke Smith (Miami FL), So Gino Fils Aime (Miami FL) and Jr Frank Bennett (Naples FL) who all got hot from 3pt range.   However Keiser cut the lead to 27-23 before JWU ended the half with a 41-23 advantage.   Smith led the Wildcats with 12 points at the break.

JWU came out hitting on all cylinders to start the second half.   Great passing, tremendous defense and stellar shooting had the home crowd at Keiser shocked as a layup by Sr. Ralph Nin (Miami FL) and a three by Bennett gave the Wildcats a 31 point lead with 12:40 left it the game.   The Seahawks cut the lead to 64-37 and started to intentional foul the Wildcats to slow down the JWU attack.  Keiser cut the lead down to twelve points with a minute remaining in the game but could not get any closer due to clutch free throw shooting by Jr. Ricardo Suarez (Miami FL).

"We came out with a great defensive and hustle mindset as a group tonight" said Coach David Graham.   "We played about as well as we could have defensively for the first 30 minutes of the game.   The last ten minutes were choppy due to the intentional fouling however we prevailed over the #9 team in the country.   I am proud of the effort and team play that we showed on the road tonight."

The Wildcats had a school-record six players score in double figures.  Fils Aime had his first career double double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.   Suarez, who has been a double double machine finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.   Jr. TJ Johnson (Orlando FL), Bennett and Smith all had 14 points while Nin rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 points.   Nin added 7 rebounds.
