NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Jan. 25, 2018) – Gino Fils-Aime and Nick Preradovic scored 25 points each as the Johnson & Wales men's basketball team (6-16, 4-8 TSC) cruised to a 79-64 win over Ave Maria (3-20, 1-11 TSC) on Thursday evening.
After falling behind 7-4 early in the first half, JWU went on a 16-0 run and never looked back in the team's fourth conference victory of the season.
Fils-Aime reached the 20-point plateau of the second-straight game and seventh time this season, shooting 12-of-15 from the floor. The Miami product also grabbed four rebounds and notched two steals on the night. Preradovic drained 9-of-15 shots in the game, including six from 3-point range. Thursday marked the seventh time this season the native of Largo, Florida, scored 20-or-more points. Isa Brandon and Antonio Ruby led the Wildcats in rebounding, notching eight boards each. Brandon added 14 points on the night while blocking a game-high three shots and registering four assists.
JWU, which led for over 35 minutes in the game, led by as many as 34 points. The Wildcats shot 52.5 percent from the floor (32-of-61) and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc (9-of-24). Ave Maria, which held a slight edge in rebounding (36-34), ended the contest shooting 40.0 percent from the floor (24-of-6) and 19.0 percent (4-of-21) from 3-point range.
The Wildcats will next travel to Lakeland, Florida, to face the Southeastern Fire on Saturday, Jan. 27. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
