Second-Half Run Leads to 71-59 Loss for the Wildcats

LAKELAND, Fla. (Jan. 27, 2018) – A 16-1 run by Southeastern midway through the second half led a 71-59 loss for the Johnson & Wales men's basketball team (6-17, 4-9 TSC) to the Fire (14-8, 7-6 TSC) on Saturday night.

The Wildcats held a 38-37 lead with12:21 left in the game following a three-point play by Gino Fils-Aime. However, the Fire went on a 16-1 run over the next four minutes to take a double-digit lead and never looked back.

Fils-Aime led all Wildcats with 23 points on 7-of-21 shooting from the floor and 9-of-11 shooting from the free-throw line. He also added a team-high four steals and two assists in the contest. Isa Brandon notched his 13th double-double of the season scoring 17 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Brandon converted 5-of-11 from the floor and was 7-of-9 from the free-throw line.

JWU shot 33.3 percent from the floor (18-of-54) for the game and was 1-of-16 from 3-point range (6.3 percent). SEU converted 25-of-57 from the floor (43.9 percent) and drained 6-of-16 shots from downtown (37.5 percent). The Fire held a 43-33 edge in rebounding and out-scored the Wildcats 16-6 in second-chance points.

The Wildcats will host St. Thomas on Thursday, February 1. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
