Strong Second Half by FMU Leads to 74-66 Loss for Johnson & Wales


MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Feb. 3, 2018) – The Johnson & Wales men's basketball team (7-18, 5-10 TSC) were out-scored 54-38 in the second half, resulting in a 74-66 loss at Florida Memorial (12-9, 6-8 TSC) on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats shot 34.2 percent from the floor in the second half while the Lions converted 78.3 percent from the field to erase an eight-point, JWU halftime lead. The hot shooting by FMU swung the momentum in its favor to hand the Wildcats the eight-point loss.

Isa Brandon led all Wildcats with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Gino Fils-Aime and Majuan Bates each registered 11 points to round out the team's double-digit scorers. Fils-Aime led the team with three steals and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Bates, along with Antonio Ruby, paced the Wildcats with three assists.

JWU ended the game shooting 35.8 percent from the floor (24-of-67) and 30.3 percent from 3-point range (10-of-33). FMU drained 45.3 percent of its shots from the field (24-of-53) and 7-of-19 from beyond the arc (36.8 percent). The Lions (19-of-27) made 11 more free throws than the Wildcats (8-of-14) in the game. JWU was out-rebounded, 43-35, but outscored the Lions 14-7 in second-chance points.

The Wildcats will host the Keiser Seahawks on Saturday, February 10. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
