Joseph Ties Season-High in Sun Conference Home-Opening Loss

– Draining five treys, Jacknelson Joseph scored a season-high-tying 16 points as the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's basketball team (0-8, 0-4 TSC) fell to the Ave Maria Gyrenes (7-3, 2-2 TSC), 80-63, on Saturday afternoon.

The Miami product went 5-of-11 from downtown to go along with a 1-of-2 afternoon from the charity stripe to notch his fourth double-digit outing in points this season. Joseph also grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists in the contest. Three other Wildcats scored in double-figures as Dwayne Adams, Michael Stuart, and Willem Vermylen each added 11 points versus the Gyrenes. Adams totaled a team-high four assists while Vermylen led JWU with nine rebounds.

The Wildcats finished the afternoon, shooting 38.3 percent from the floor (23-of-60) and were 9-of-26 from 3-point range (34.percent). JWU went 8-of-11 from the free-throw line (72.7 percent). AMU ended the game, shooting 46.0 percent from the floor (29-of-63) and converted 9-of-24 from beyond the arc (37.5 percent). The Gyrenes made 13-of-18 free-throw attempts (72.2 percent).

AMU outrebounded JWU, 41-34, and outscored the Wildcats, 40-26 in the paint.

The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, December 6, taking on the Florida Memorial Lions. Game time is slated for 8:00 p.m.
