MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Dec. 6, 2018)
– The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's basketball team (0-9, 0-5 TSC) pulled within three points with 37 seconds left in the game but were unable to take the lead as the Florida Memorial Lions (2-8, 1-3 TSC) defeated the Wildcats, 68-61, on Thursday night.

Following a layup by junior Sidney Alcena which made the score 64-61 with 37 second left on game clock, the Wildcats looked to take advantage of Lion's poor shooting on the night from the free-throw line (66.7 percent) by sending them to the charity stripe. However, FMU made 4-of-6 attempts coupled with a pair of empty possessions for the Wildcats in the final half-minute to hand JWU the seven-point loss.

The Wildcats were led by Alcena, who posted 17 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the floor. The native of Pembroke Pines, Florida, also grabbed six boards and recorded two assists. Leading the Wildcats in rebounding was Willem Vermylen, who notched 10 boards versus the Lions.

JWU ended the night converting 37.9 percent from the floor (25-of-66) and was 8-of-28 from 3-point range (28.6 percent). FMU made 25-of-59 attempts from the floor (42.4 percent) and hit on just 4-of-20 shots from downtown. The Lions held a slight edge in rebounding, 38-37, while the Wildcats outrebounded FMU on the offensive glass, 14-12.

The Wildcats will host the St. Thomas Bobcats on Saturday, December 8. Game time from the Wildcat Center is set for 4:00 p.m.
