JWU Women's Basketball

Last time out: A steal by Ave Maria's Danielle Weinmann on an inbound pass with 14 second left in the game resulted in the go-ahead bucked and proved to be the difference in the contest as the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team (6-14, 3-9 TSC) fell to the Gyrenes (18-4, 9-3 TSC), 89-87, on Thursday evening. Despite 30-point performances by sophomore Tianna Ayulo and senior JoNae Gonzales-Smith, the Wildcats dropped their second-straight Sun Conference contest. It marked the second time in school history that two JWU players scored 30 points in the same game. The first was earlier this year as Ayulo and Gonzales-Smith posted 30 and 32 points, respectively, versus Keiser on January 5. Ayulo scored a game-high 31 points on 13-of-22 shooting from the floor and 4-of-7 shooting from the free-throw line. The native of Hollywood, Florida, also grabbed seven boards while playing all 40 minutes of the contest. Gonzales-Smith contributed 30 points on 11-of-18 shooting, including a game-high five treys while going 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. The native of Richmond, California, registered four assists and a team-high nine boards versus the Gyrenes. Freshman Jordan McDuffie added 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor while collecting six rebounds in the game.
