Men’s Basketball Picks Up First Win of Season; Defeats Trinity Baptist, 69-66

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (November 7, 2019)
– Four Wildcats reached double-figures in scoring, led by senior Michael Stuart's 17 points as the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's basketball team (1-3) earned its first win of the season, defeating Trinity Baptist (0-4), 69-66, on Thursday night.

Stuart shot 5-of-10 from the floor and was 3-of-6 from beyond the arc to go along with a 4-of-4 night from the line. The native Port St. Lucie, Florida, hit some key treys in the second half as the Wildcats battled back from a from a seven-point deficit. Freshman Alex Doane also came up big from downtown, draining 5-of-6 attempts from 3-point range (as well as 1-of-1 from the free-throw line) to add 16 points on the night.

Sophomore Tristan Stephens registered his first double-double of 2019, scoring 16 points (7-of-12 shooting) and grabbing a season-high 13 rebounds. Rounding out the double-digit scoring was sophomore Kevin Rostamian, who scored 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting and a 5-of-7 contest from the charity stripe. The first-year Wildcat pulled down eight rebounds versus the Eagles.

The Wildcats shot 46.2 percent from the floor (24-of-52) and were 9-of-22 from 3-point range (40.9 percent). TBC converted 21-of-61 from the floor (34.4 percent) and struggle from beyond the arc, going 4-of-21 (19.0 percent). JWU held a 37-34 edge in rebounding with a slight advantage on the offensive glass, 8-7.

JWU will return home to host Point Park on Sunday, November 10. Tipoff from the Wildcat Center is set for 1:00 p.m.
