Hot Shooting from Downtown Leads to 83-74 win over Point Park

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (November 10, 2019)
– Shooting 14-of-26 (53.8 percent) from 3-point range, the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's basketball team (2-3) earned an 83-74 win over Point Park (2-2) on Sunday afternoon.

Trailing 39-36 at the half, the Wildcats went 10-of-11 from beyond the arc in the second half en route to the team's second-straight win.

Freshman Tyler Poindexter led all Wildcats with a career-high 24 points. The native of Plano, Texas, shot 7-of-10 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from 3-point land in the first20-point outing of his JWU career. Freshman Alex Doane added 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc. It marked the fifth-straight game in which the native of Boca Raton, Florida, reach double digits in scoring. Doane also recorded a team-high five assists and a team-best eight boards.

Freshman Dante Pace (13) and sophomore Tristan Stephens (10) rounded out the Wildcat's top scorers.

JWU finished the game shooting 45.8 percent from the floor (27-of-59) to go along with its hot shooting from 3-point range. Point Park ended the afternoon converting 38.4 percent of its shots from the floor (28-of-73) and was 8-of-34 from downtown (8-of-34).

The Pioneers held a 46-35 edge in rebounding and held a 20-8 advantage on the offensive glass.

JWU will opened up Sun Conference play on Saturday, November 16. The Wildcats will take on the Warner Royals in Lake Wales, Florida. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
