NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (December 19, 2019) – With four Wildcats scoring in double-figures and a team shooting percentage of 51.6 percent for the game, the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's basketball team (4-8) earned its second-straight victory, defeating Mitchell College (2-10), 83-75, on Thursday evening.
Freshman Dante Pace led all Wildcat with 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the floor. The native of Miami, Florida, drained four treys, dished out two assists and recorded a team-high four steals. Sophomore Vince Ventulan, who was facing his old team (played at Mitchell College in 2018-19), added a season-high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting. The native of Port St. Lucie, Florida, grabbed five boards, had a team-high-tying four assists and two blocked shots.
Freshman Alex Doane contributed 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting to go along with four dimes. Rounding out the team's leading scorers was freshman Tyler Poindexter, who had 11 points and a team-high-tying nine rebounds.
JWU ended the night shooting 51.6 percent from the floor (33-of-64) and hit on 12-of-33 from downtown (36.4 percent). The Mariners shot 28-of-66 from the floor (42.4 percent) and converted just 11.1 percent from 3-point range (1-of-9). Mitchell College out-rebounded the Wildcats, 41-34, including a 15-7 edge on the offensive glass.
The Wildcats will return to action on January 4, 2020, hosting the Webber International Warriors. Game time is set 4:00 p.m.
