Men’s and Women’s Basketball Hits the Road to Take on Thomas

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (February 4, 2020) -- The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's and women's basketball teams travel to Thomasville, Georgia, to take on the Thomas Night Hawks in a doubleheader on Thursday, February 6. Game time for the women is set for 5:30 p.m. The men's game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.

JWU Women's Basketball

Last time out: The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team (15-5, 9-3 TSC) fell to the Webber International Warriors (14-9, 8-5), 89-70, on Saturday afternoon.

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Wildcats.

JWU was led offensively by junior Alexis McClain and sophomore Jordan McDuffie, who each registered 14 points in the contest. McClain shot 6-of-8 from the floor and was 2-of-7 from the free-throw line whiles grabbing four rebounds while McDuffie converted 6-of-13 attempts from the field, including a pair of treys. The native of White Plains, Maryland, also grabbed five rebounds and had a team-high five assists.

Junior Andrea Ferbee led JWU in rebounding, grabbing a seven boards to go along with eight points.

The Wildcats ended the afternoon shooting 36.6 percent from the floor (26-of-71) and was 4-of-12 from 3-point range (33.3 percent). WIU shot 34-of-70 from the field (48.6 percent) and converted 7-of-12 attempts from beyond the arc (58.3 percent). JWU held a 48-44 edge in rebounding with a 24-14 advantage on the offensive glass.

JWU Men's Basketball

Last time out: The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's basketball team (6-14, 2-10 TSC) fell to the Webber International Warriors (13-11, 6-7 TSC) in overtime, 83-81, on Saturday evening.

The Warriors used a 7-0 run to close out the overtime period and hand the Wildcats the two-point loss.

Three Wildcats scored in double-figures, including freshman Dante Pace, who led JWU with 23 points on 8-of-19 shooting from the field. The native of Miami, Florida, drained seven treys in the contest while grabbing five rebounds.

Freshman Alex Doane, posted 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor. The native of Boca Raton, Florida, recorded five 3-pointers in the game, including the game-tying trey in the final minute to send the game to overtime.

Sophomore Kevin Rostamian notched his sixth double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and grabbing a career-high 18 rebounds versus the Warriors. The product of Weston, Florida, was 5-of-7 from the floor and recorded a game-high two blocked shots.

The Wildcats ended the game shooting 51.6 percent from the floor (33-of-64) and were 14-of-36 from 3-point range (38.9 percent). WIU shot 29-of-68 from the field (42.6 percent) and converted 10-of-25 attempts from beyond the arc (40.0 percent). WIU held a 41-37 edge in rebounding with a 13-7 advantage on the offensive glass.
