Wildcats Close Out Regular Season at Florida Memorial

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (February 21, 2020) -- The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's and women's basketball teams will travel to Miami Gardens, Florida, to close out the regular season versus the Florida Memorial Lions in a doubleheader on Friday, February 22. Game time for the women is set for 2:00 p.m. The men's game is slated for a 4:00 p.m. tipoff.

JWU Women's Basketball

Last time out: Led by Tianna Ayulo's 26 points, the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team (18-7, 12-5 TSC) defeated the St. Thomas Bobcats (10-17, 7-10 TSC), 75-58, during senior night on Thursday.

Prior to the contest, JWU honored its senior class (Maxine Samuel, Amber Barber, and Lexie Jackson).

The win clinches the No. 3 seed a home game for JWU on Tuesday, February 25, in the upcoming Sun Conference Women's Basketball Championships.

The Wildcats outscored the Bobcats 26-11 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the team's school-record 18th victory of the year.

Ayulo notched her 10th 20-point outing of the year, shooting 10-of-21 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line. The native of Hollywood, Florida, also grabbed a team-high-tying nine boards, and dished out a team-high five assists.

Joining Ayulo for the team lead in rebounding were freshman Shikal Gillion and junior Chrystal Pressley. Gillion registered a game-high six steals to go along with eight points. Pressley notched six points and had two assists.

Sophomore Jordan McDuffie added 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting. The native of White Plains, Maryland, tallied four steals versus STU.

JWU ended the game shooting 41.7 percent from the floor (30-of-72) and was 7-of-23 from 3-point land (30.4 percent). STU made 22-of-58 attempts from the field (37.9 percent) and shot 37.5 percent from downtown. The Wildcats out-rebounded the Bobcats, 50-32, and held an 18-7 edge on the offensive glass.

JWU Men's Basketball

Last time out: The Wildcat's bid to upset (rv) St. Thomas (19-5, 12-5 TSC) fell short as the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's basketball team (7-18, 3-14 TSC) dropped a 93-87 decision to Bobcats on Senior Night.

Prior to the contest, JWU honored its lone senior Michael Stuart, who was playing in the final home game of his Wildcat career.

Four Wildcats reached double-figures in scoring led by freshman Dante Pace, who posted 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor and 5-of-6 shooting from the free-throw line. Sophomore Tristan Stephens added 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting while leading the JWU in rebounding with seven boards. Freshman Alex Doane scored 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting with four treys while sophomore Vince Ventulan tallied 11 points while shooting 5-of-8 from the floor.  

JWU ended the game shooting 55.9 percent from the floor (33-of-59) and was 11-of-25 from 3-point land (44.0 percent). STU made 31-of-59 attempts from the field (52.5 percent) and shot 40.0 percent from downtown (10-of-25). The Wildcats were out-rebounded by the Bobcats, 40-22, with STU holding a 15-2 edge on the offensive glass.
