KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May. 13, 2018) – The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's golf program has qualified for this year's NAIA Men's Golf National Championships, May 21-24, earning an at-large bid the organization announced on Thursday, May 9. The 68th annual event will take place at Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.
This marks the Wildcats' 19th-consecutive appearance in the national tournament. Last season, JWU finished tied for 12th.
The Wildcats are one of five qualifiers (JWU, Keiser, USCB, Coastal Georgia, and Thomas) for this year's tournament from the Sun Conference (the most by any conference).
Ranked No. 9 in the final regular-season NAIA Men's Golf Coaches' Top 25 Poll, JWU enters this year's national championship with a season stroke average of 296.55 over 13 events this season. The Wildcats finished fifth in last month's TSC Men's Golf Championship, marking the team's sixth Top-5 finish in 2018-19. On the year, JWU has amassed 11 individual Top-10 finishes with six Top-5 results, and one medalists.
The 156-player field consists of 19 automatic qualifying teams, which won or finished runner-up in their respective conference, independent or unaffiliated group tournament, one host berth to Benedictine-Mesa and ten at-large team berths.
