NORMAN, Okla. (July 22, 2020) – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced its second wave of Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, and NJCAA on Tuesday, July 21. An additional 404 student-athletes were recognized with the award in the second nomination period, with a total of 1,018 players earning the award. Of the 404 honorees in the second wave, 194 players were Division I selections, 87 in Division II, 81 in Division III, 27 from NAIA, and 11 from NJCAA.
Among those recognized were Johnson & Wales (Fla.) golfers Jens Bendiksen and Matt Maloney.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20 only, they must participate in 40% of the team's competitive rounds
Bendiksen, who has a 3.84 GPA on business administration, was named 2020 Academic All-District I® Men's At-Large Team selection and appeared in nine events for the Wildcats this season, posting a season stroke average of 75.15. The native of Stavanger, Norway, recorded six rounds of under par or par this season, including a career-best 65 during the second round at Doc Glimmer (9/14-9/15/19). During that tournament, Bendiksen registered a season-low 209 (-1) for his best finish of the season (ninth), helping JWU place seventh. He also shot a 2-under (214) at the Wildcat's annual Dave Adamonis Sr Invitational (Trump Doral – 10/28-10/29/19). Bendiksen is a member of the 2019-20 Sun Conference All-Academic Team.
Maloney, who recorded a 3.49 GPA in sports, entertainment, and event management, appeared in all nine events for the Wildcats, registering a 76.44 season stroke average in 27 total rounds. The native of Dedham, Massachusetts, recorded two rounds of par or under par in 2019-2020, including season-best, opening-round 70 at the Mid-South Classic (9/23-9/24). At that tournament, Maloney notched his best finish of the season, placing eighth, shooting one-over-par (70-71-76, 217). He also tallied a season-low 216 (+6) at The Doc Glimmer (9/14-9/15), placing tied for 24th (74-71-71, 216).
