MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Oct. 17, 2017) – The Johnson and Wales Wildcats (8-4) fell to the Barry Buccaneers (3-5-2), 4-0, on Tuesday evening from Buccaneer Soccer Field in Miami Shores, Florida.

The Wildcats had two good scoring opportunities early with shots by Valentin Salinas in the eight minute and Patricio Rolon in the 11th minute before Barry broke the scoreless tie in the 15th minute. Felipe Ospina headed the ball past JWU goalkeeper JC Diego to find the back of the net, 1-0. The goal came off a free kick by Barry's Jerrell Cato.

Neither team gained the advantage over the next 15 minutes as much of the play took place in the middle third of the field. The Buccaneers extended their lead, 2-0, in the 36th minute with a goal by Cato.

At the half, JWU was out-shot, 8-4, while each team had two corner kicks apiece.

Barry posted its third goal in the 52 minute on a shot by Toby Fura. The Wildcats responded with their best scoring opportunity of the night when a shot by Rolon was deflected by Buccaneer goalkeeper Bo Haug caromed off the crossbar. Ruben Tejeda corralled the rebound and got a second shot off which was blocked by a defender, resulting in a JWU corner kick in the 59th minute. Fura added the final goal of the game in the 70th minute for the 4-0 result.

For the game, the Buccaneers held an 18-11 edge in total shots and a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. Rolon, who posted three shots on the night, led the Wildcats. JWU notched six saves in the game, including a team-high four by Jesse Della Porta, who replaced Diego in the 36th minute due to injury.

The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 21, hosting the Thomas University Night Hawks. Game time from Miami Shores Village is set for 2:00 p.m. ET.
