The Wildcats were able to get their second win in as many years versus Nova Southeastern University.
The weather was beautiful, the pitch was great, and the bleachers were nearly full. Everyone was excited for soccer to finally be back, after hurricane Irma.
The whistle blew at 7pm, and the ball rolled. The first half was full of excitement with both the Wildcats and the Sharks having clear opportunities to score, without capitalizing until the 44th minute. The referee called a penalty kick, after Youri Derine was dragged down, in the box, by Arns Carrenard, on a cross off a corner kick. Ruben Tejeda stepped up to take the penalty kick, and was able to tuck it in, for the only goal of the first half.
The Wildcats were able to hold off the Sharks strong attack throughout the whole second half, and capitalized off of an opportunity in the 40th minute, when Brian Vidales headed a ball back into the box. Jonas Bukh collected it with his chest, turned and volleyed it before the ball touched the ground.
The man of the match was goal keeper, JC Diego, who was able to hold the clean sheet, with several saves. Nova outshot JWU 23-11. "I feel really honored to be named man of the match. It was a really fun game for myself." Said JC. "I really do feel like our defense and our back line played really well. They played with a lot of heart versus a very good Nova team that never gave up."
The Wildcats have now won 3 in a row, after losing the season opener.
Next up the Wildcats will travel to Webber International University on September 22nd, to open up their conference play.
- Ruben scored his first goal of his career with JWU (2nd year)
- Jonas scored first goal in a JWU uniform (1st year)
