LAKELAND, Fla. (Nov. 6, 2018)
– The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's soccer team's (9-6-1) run in the Sun Conference Men's Soccer Championships came to an end on Tuesday after being eliminated in a penalty-kick shootout (4-3) by the Southeastern Fire (11-3-2).

After playing 110 minutes with a 2-2 score, the match could not be decided, resulting in a PK shootout to determine which team would advance to Friday's TSC Finals. JWU missed two of their five attempts while SEU remained perfect through four tries, ending the Wildcats season.

Trailing 1-0 in the 33rd minute junior Diego Arcon scored his first goal of the season to draw the match even. Seniors Patricio Rolon and Valentin Salinas set up the score, resulting in assist No. 7 of 2018 for both midfielders.

The Fire regained the lead in the 48th minute but, senior Tim Petersen netted his third goal of the year to tie the match in the 81st minute. Sophomore Santiago Cainelli crossed a ball into the area which Petersen finished for the score. The assist was the first of Cainelli's JWU career.

The Wildcats held a 24-13 edge in total shots, including an 11-5 advantage on net.

With the tie, JWU ends the 2018 campaign with a 9-6-1 record, earning the team's second-straight berth in the TSC Men's Soccer Championships (third overall) while advancing the program's first semifinal match.
