TAMPA, Fla. (March 24, 2018) – Five Sun Conference Championship qualifying marks were recorded by the Johnson & Wales track & field team during the USF Invitational this past weekend. The two-day event was held at the USF Track & Field Stadium and featured student-athletes from 24 different schools.
On the women's side, sophomore Latoya Jennings posted two TSC qualifying marks with a 27.96 in the 200m Dash and a 1:06.58 in the 400m Dash. Her time in the 200m was a PR for the sprinter. She also registered a 2:55.50 in the 800m Dash. Freshman Breiana Brown qualified for this year's TSC Championships with a time of 1:07.28 in the 400m Dash. The first-year Wildcat also recorded PRs in the 100m Dash (14.29) and the 200m Dash (29.50).
Making her track & field debut, Maxine Samuel posted a TSC qualifying mark in the 400m Dash with a time of 1:09.12. The sophomore, who is also a member of the women's basketball team, also recorded a 29.73 in the 200m Dash.
In the field events, junior Taylor Deveaux had a strong performance for the Wildcats. Deveaux qualified for this year's conference championships in the discus with a throw of 25.98m. She also placed 10th in the Javelin with a mark of 31.28m and was 22nd in the Shot Put with a throw of 8.96m. Sophomore Sharell Nairn placed 16th in the Long Jump with a mark of 4.15m.
On the men's side, senior Kyre Kelly placed 24th in the 800m Dash with a time of 2:03.33.
JWU will next compete in the Florida Relays, March 29-30, in Gainesville, Florida.
