Third Quarter Dooms Wildcats in 66-55 loss to Concordia

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Dec. 18, 2017) – Out-scored 21-5 in the third quarter, the Johnson & Wales women's basketball team (4-10) fell to the Concordia Cardinals (10-5), 66-55, on Monday evening.

The Wildcats trailed 30-28 after halftime, but a 21-5 third quarter put JWU in a hole it could not overcome.

JoNae Gonzales led the Wildcats with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor and 4-of-4 shooting from the free-throw line. She also tallied four assists and three steals in the contest. Joining Gonzales in double-digit scoring was Tianna Ayulo, who posted 13 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Ayulo also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to go along with three steals. Diamond Williams notched a game-high six steals versus the Cardinals. She also added nine points and four assists.

JWU finished the evening shooting 35.8 percent from the floor (19-of-53) and was 6-of-22 from 3-point range (27.3 percent). Concordia converted 27-of-60 from the floor (45.0 percent) and drained 10-of-24 treys (41.7 percent). The Cardinals held a 38-30 edge on the glass, while JWU notched 16 steals to just seven for Concordia.

The Wildcats will next host Talladega College on Friday, Dec. 29. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
