WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 6, 2018) – A 26-point fourth quarter by the Wildcats led the Johnson & Wales women's basketball team (5-11, 1-6 TSC) to a 68-59 win over Keiser University (4-14, 1-6 TSC) on Saturday afternoon. The victory marked the first Sun Conference win of the season for the Wildcats.
Trailing by one point, 43-42, after three quarters, JWU used a 9-0 run in the first 1:30 of the fourth to take a 51-43 lead; a lead that the Wildcats would not relinquish for the remainder of the game. During the fourth, the Wildcats used an 11-of-12 performance from the free-throw line en route to the nine-point win.
Leading the way for JWU was JoNae Gonzales, who posted a season-high 22 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor, including four treys. Gonzales also registered five assists and three steals in the contest. Diamond Williams also reached the 20-point plateau with 20 points on 6-of-19 shooting from the floor with five 3-pointers. It marked the eighth 20-point game this season for Williams. Williams also had five assists and two steals. Tianna Ayulo rounded out the team's leading scorers with 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting. She also led the team with 14 boards for her fifth double-double of the season.
For the game, JWU shot 22-of-62 from the floor (35.5 percent) and was 7-of-17 from 3-point range (35.1 percent). Keiser converted 23-of-50 shots from the floor (46.0 percent) and was 4-of-8 from beyond the arc (50.0 percent). The Wildcats out-rebounded Seahawks, 43-29, while scoring 17 points off 17 Keiser turnovers.
The Wildcats will host the Warner Royals on Thursday, January 11. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
