NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Nov. 12, 2018) – Sophomore Tianna Ayulo has been named the Sun Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending November 11, the league announced on Monday.
Ayulo, a 5-foot-9 forward, recorded his first collegiate triple-double, scoring 14 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out 10 assists as JWU picked up its first win of the season, defeating Florida National, 68-54. She was also three steals shy of quadruple-double, posting seven steals versus the Conquistadores. The triple-double was just the second in school history (Qurimisha Spence – 25 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists versus Trinity Baptist – 12/10/12). It also marked the 10th triple-double in the Sun Conference over the past 16 years and the first since the 2016-17 campaign. The 2017 Sun Conference Freshman of the Year, notched her second-straight game with 10-or-more points – the 28th of her career. Ayulo also added a season-high 10 boards, marking the eighth time during her two-year career with 10-or-more rebounds. The native of Hollywood, Florida, set career-highs in assists with 10 – the most by a Wildcat since JoNae Gonzales-Smith recorded 12 versus Trinity College (Fla.) (10/28/17). On the year, Ayulo is averaging 15.0 points-, 8.5 rebounds-, 5.5 assists-, and 4.5 steals-per-game. She ranks No. 7 in the conference in points-per-game, No. 5 in rebounds-per-game, No. 14 in assists-per-game, and leads the league in steals-per-contest.
This marks Ayulo's first weekly honor of the season and second of her JWU career.
JWU will travel to Brunswick, Georgia, to take on Coastal Georgia on Thursday, November 15. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
