Ayulo Scores Season-High 25 Points in 66-61 Loss at Thomas

– Sophomore Tianna Ayulo scored a season-high 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting in a losing effort as the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team fell to Thomas Night Hawks (3-4, 1-1 TSC), 66-61, on Saturday afternoon from the TU Gymnasium.

The 25 points were three shy of her career high (28 points versus Keiser – 2/10/18) as the native of Hollywood, Florida, scored a game-high nine buckets, including three from 3-point range. Ayulo also grabbed 10 rebounds for her third-straight double-double. Joining Ayulo in double-digit points and rebounds was sophomore Alexis McClain, who tallied 11 points and 14 boards. The product of Ft. Lauderdale recorded five of her 14 boards on the offensive glass and registered two blocked shots versus the Night Hawks. Freshman Jordan McDuffie added 10 points on 5-of-14 shooting and notched eight rebounds. It was the third-straight, double-digit performance for the native of White Plains, Maryland.

The Wildcats trailed by as many as 18 points (5:03 left in the second quarter). But, battled back, tying the game at 50-50 following a layup by senior JoNae Gonzales-Smith with 7:27 left in the contest. However, the Night Hawks went on an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to extend their lead, 61-52. JWU was unable to overcome the nine-point deficit in the final four minutes of action, falling 66-61.

The Wildcats ended the game shooting 39.3 percent from the floor (24-of-61) and were 4-of-20 (20.0 percent) from beyond the arc. TU converted 28-of-69 shots from the floor (40.6 percent) and made 40.0 percent of its shots from 3-point land (6-of-14). JWU outrebounded the Night Hawks, 47-35, including a 15-9 edge on the offensive boards.

The Wildcats will take on the Florida National Conquistadors on Tuesday, November 20, at Bucky Dent Gym in Hialeah, Florida. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
