JWU Women’s Basketball Falls to Florida Memorial, 106-77

– The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team (3-7, 0-5 TSC) fell to the Florida Memorial Lions (8-4, 4-0 TSC), 106-77, on Thursday evening.

The Wildcats were led by sophomore Tianna Ayulo, who registered a season-high 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the floor. The native of Hollywood, Florida, also drained three treys and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Ayulo also led the team with five assists. Sophomore Alexis McClain notched her third double-double of the season, scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Senior JoNae Gonzales-Smith scored in double-figures for the ninth time this year, posting 17 points on 8-of-17 shooting. The native of Richmond, California recorded six rebounds and three assists. Rounding out the double-digit scorers was sophomore Andrea Ferbee, who notched 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor while converting 2-of-4 from the line.

JWU ended the night shooting 47.6 percent from the floor (30-of-63) and hit on 4-of-8 attempts from beyond the arc. Florida Memorial shot 38.0 percent from the floor (35-of-92) and drained 16 3-point buckets while shooting 32.7 percent (16-of-49) from downtown. The Lions outrebounded the Wildcats, 51-38 and forced 20 JWU turnovers resulting in 34 points for FMU.

The Wildcats will host the St. Thomas Bobcats on Saturday, December 8. Game time from the Wildcat Center is set for 2:00 p.m.
