McClain Scored a Career-High 25 points in 78-66 Loss to St. Thomas

– Sophomore Alexis McClain posted a career-high 25 points on Saturday as the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team (3-8, 0-6 TSC) lost to the St. Thomas Bobcats (7-4, 4-1 TSC), 78-66.

McClain shot 12-of-16 from the floor and was 1-of-1 from the charity stripe for the first 20-point outing of her JWU career. The native of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, corralled a team-high 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. She also registered a game-high two blocked shots. Also scoring in double-figures were senior JoNae Gonzales-Smith (15) and sophomore Tianna Ayulo (14). Gonzales-Smith was 5-of-10 from the floor, including two 3-pointers. Ayulo was 7-of-14 from the floor and collected seven rebounds and seven assists.

The Wildcats finished the night shooting 49.2 percent from the floor (29-of-59) and were 4-of-13 from 3-point range (30.8 percent). The Bobcats ended the contest shooting 32-of-70 from the floor (45.7 percent) and went 4-of-15 from downtown (26.7 percent). JWU outrebounded STU, 36-34. However, the Bobcats forced 18 JWU turnovers resulting in 39 point for St. Thomas.

JWU will travel to Ft. Myers, Florida, to take on Florida Gulf Coast in an exhibition on Friday, December 14. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
