Career-High 33 Points by Ayulo Leads Wildcats to 80-73 win over Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla. (Jan. 10, 2019) – Paced by a career-high 33 points by sophomore Tianna Ayulo, the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team (5-11, 2-6 TSC) picked up its second-straight conference victory with an 80-73 win at Warner (6-13, 0-8 TSC) on Thursday night.

For the second-straight outing, Auylo reached the 30-point plateau, shooting 12-of-24 from the floor and 8-of-10 shooting from the free-throw line. The native of Hollywood, Florida, currently leads the Sun Conference in scoring, averaging 20.7 points-per-game. She also notched a team-high five assists and was tied for the team in rebounding (8).

Senior JoNae Gonzales-Smith poured in 19 points in the victory, shooting 6-of-14 from the floor while draining five shots from beyond the arc. The native of Richmond, California, leads the team in 3-pointers this season with 40. She also corralled five rebounds and dished out four assists versus the Lady Royals.

Freshman Jordan McDuffie added 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor and 2-of-3 shooting from the free-throw line. The product of White Plains, Maryland, was tied for the team lead in rebounding (with Ayulo), grabbing eight boards.

For the game, JWU shot 43.8 percent from the floor (28-of-64) and was 9-of-24 from 3-point range (37.5 percent). Warner ended the night shooting 38.6 percent from the floor (22-of-57) and converted 54.5 percent (12-of-22) from downtown.

The Wildcats forced 19 Lady Royal turnovers, resulting in 15 points for JWU.

JWU will return home to host the Webber International Warriors on Saturday, January 12. Game time from the Wildcat Center is set for 2:00 p.m.
