Strong Second Half Propels Wildcats to 76-57 win over Thomas

– Outscoring the Night Hawks, 50-26, in the second half, the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team (6-12, 3-7 TSC) defeated Thomas (6-15, 3-7 TSC), 76-57, on Thursday evening.

JWU used double-digit performances from four Wildcats to earn the team's third conference win in its last four outings.

Sophomore Tianna Ayulo continued to show why she is the leading scorer in the Sun Conference, pouring in a team-high 28 points on 12-of-26 shooting. Averaging 21.0 points-per-game, Ayulo tallied her 11th 20-point outing of the season on Thursday. The native of Hollywood, Florida, also grabbed 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double on the year. Sophomore Alexis McClain registered her sixth double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and corralling 11 boards versus the Night Hawks. The product of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, was a force in the paint, recording a career-high four blocked shots.

Freshman Jordan McDuffie added a career-high 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor. The native of White Plains, Maryland, was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line as she reached double-digits in scoring for the seventh time this year. McDuffie also grabbed seven rebounds on the night.

Senior JoNae Gonzales-Smith rounded out the team's leading scorers, posting 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting. The native of Richmond, California, also dished out a season-high seven assists and tallied six boards.

The Wildcats ended the night shooting 40.8 percent from the floor (29-of-71) and hit on 4-of-23 attempts from 3-points range (17.4 percent). Thomas finished the contest shooting 25-of-72 from the floor (34.7 percent) and made 24.0 percent of its shots from downtown (6-of-25).

The Wildcats outrebounded the Night Hawks, 57-37, including a 22-14 edge on the offensive boards.

JWU will host the Coast Georgia Mariners on Saturday, January 19. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
