Women’s Basketball Suffers 83-76 Loss at Webber International

– The Johnson & Wales women's basketball team (8-17, 5-12 TSC) suffered an 83-76 loss at Webber International (10-15, 5-12 TSC) on Thursday evening.

JWU had four Wildcats score in double-figures, led by senior JoNae Gonzales-Smith, who posted 25 points on 9-of-19 shooting from the floor. The native of Richmond, California, drained five treys in the contest to go along with eight rebounds and a game-high seven assists. Freshman Ayshia Scott added a career-high 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range. Sophomore Alexis McClain scored 12 points on 5-of-14 shooting while grabbing seven boards. Sophomore Tianna Ayulo registered a team-high nine rebounds and recorded 10 points on 3-of-13 shooting from the floor and 4-of-8 shooting from the free-throw line.

The Wildcats ended the night shooting 42.0 percent from the floor (29-of-69) and were 6-of-22 from 3-point land (27.3 percent). The Warriors finished the contest, shooting 43.8 percent from the floor (32-of-73) and hit on 8-of-19 attempts for downtown (42.1 percent). WIU held a 46-43 edge in rebounding including a 17-14 advantage on the offensive glass.

With the loss, JWU was officially eliminated from earning a berth in this year's Sun Conference Women's Basketball Championships.

The Wildcats will close out the 2018-19 season on Saturday, February 16, as the Warner Royals visit the Wildcat Center. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m. Prior to the contest, JWU will honor seniors Gonzales-Smith and Priscilla Fernandez, who will be playing in the final contest of their JWU careers.
