Women’s Basketball Opens up Conference Play with a 64-52 Win at Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla. (November 16, 2019)
– Led by Jordan McDuffie's 13 points, the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team (4-0, 1-0 TSC) opened up Sun Conference play with a 64-52 win over the Warner Royals (1-4, 0-1 TSC) on Saturday afternoon.

McDuffie finished the afternoon shooting 5-of-9 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line marking her fourth-straight, double-digit-scoring game. The native of White Plains, Maryland, also grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists.

Freshman Shikal Gillion added a career-high 11 points and recorded a team-high eight rebounds versus the Royals.  Shykim Gillion tallied 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting while recording a game-high seven steals. Also reaching double-figures in scoring were junior Tianna Ayulo (10) and Alexis McClain (10), who both grabbed six boards each in the contest as well.

The Wildcats finished the afternoon shooting 36.4 percent from the floor (24-of-66) and were 4-of-21 from 3-point range (19.0 percent). WU converted 19-of-49 from the floor (38.8 percent) and made just 2-of-5 shots from beyond the arc (40.0 percent).

The JWU defensive forced 27 Warner turnovers resulting in 20 points for the Wildcats.

JWU will take on the FGCU Eagles in an exhibition contest on Tuesday, November 19. The Wildcats will then continue Sun Conference action, hosting the Keiser Seahawks on Saturday, November 23. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
