FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (December 20, 2019) – The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team (9-1) returned to its winning ways, topping the SUNY-Poly Wildcats (3-5), 73-69, in the Cruzin' Classic on Friday afternoon.
Freshman Shykim Gillion led all Wildcats with 17 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the floor and 4-of-8 shooting from the free-throw line. The native of Delray Beach, Florida, also dished out three assists and collected a game-high-tying four steals. Junior Tianna Ayulo added 14 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the floor. The third-year Wildcat led JWU with nine rebounds in the contest while registering four assists and a game-high-tying four steals. Rounding out JUW's leading scorers was freshman Shikal Gillion, who posted 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor. The first-year guard recorded six rebounds, three assists and two steals on the afternoon.
JWU ended the contest shooting 37.0 percent from the floor (30-of-81) and was 4-of-19 from 3-point range (21.1 percent). SUNY-Poly shot 23.5 percent from downtown (4-of-17) and was 41.4 percent from the field (24-of-58). The Wildcats were out-rebound be a slight edge, 47-46, but held a 44-34 advantage in points in the paint.
JWU will return to action on January 29, hosting Lawrence Tech. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
