Wildcats Extend Win Streak to Three with 80-76 Victory at St. Thomas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 18, 2020)
– Senior Tianna Ayulo and freshman Shykim Gillion combined for 54 points to lead the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team (13-4, 7-2 TSC) to its third-straight win with an 80-76 victory over the St. Thomas Bobcats (7-12, 4-5 TSC) in Miami Gardens on Saturday afternoon.

Ayulo scored a season-high 31 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field. The native of Hollywood, Florida, was also 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. Ayulo grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the 2019-2020 season. She also recorded three assists, four steals, and two blocked shots.

Gillion notched a career-high-tying 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor and 3-of-6 shooting from the charity stripe. The product of Delray Beach, Florida, registered seven boards and three steals versus the Bobcats.

Including Ayulo and Gillion, JWU had five players notched five-or-more rebounds in the contest (Lexie Jackson – 7; Chrystal Pressley – 7; Alexis McClain – 5) as the Wildcats out-rebounded the Bobcats, 48-26. Posting 25 second chance points in the game, JWU held a 23-5 edge on the offensive glass led by Ayulo, who had seven.

For the game, JWU shot 42.7 percent from the floor (32-of-75) and was 5-of-11 from 3-point range (45.5 percent). STU shot 28-of-61 from the field (45.9 percent) and converted 27.8 percent of its shots from downtown (5-of-18).

JWU will return to action on Saturday, January 25, taking on the Keiser Seahawks. Game time from West Palm Beach, Florida, is set for 2:00 p.m.
