NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (January 30, 2020) – The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team (15-4, 9-2 TSC) dominated the glass en route to a 59-46 win over the Warner Royals (2-20, 0-12 TSC) on Thursday evening. The win marked the fifth-straight for the Wildcats.
The win also marked a program-record ninth Sun Conference win for the Wildcats this season.
JWU out-rebounded the Royals, 66-38, on the night, including a 30-6 edge on the offensive boards.
Junior Chrystal Pressley led all Wildcats with 13 rebounds, marking the sixth time this season that the native from Miramar, Florida, posted 10-or-more rebounds in a game. She added four points on 2-of-4 shooting.
Joining Pressley in double-digit rebounding was junior Tianna Ayulo, who notched 10 versus Warner. The product of Hollywood, Florida, added eight points with three assists, one steal, and one blocked shot.
In all, nine Wildcats registered three-or-more rebounds in the game.
Leading JWU in scoring was freshman Quiera Kearney, who registered a career-high nine points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field. The product of Tamarac, Florida, recorded two assists, three steals and her first-colligate blocked shot.
On the night, JWU shot 28.4 percent from the floor (23-of-81) and was 7-of-30 from 3-point range (23.3. percent). The Royals converted 17-of-55 attempts from the field (30.9 percent) and shot 29.4 percent from downtown (5-of-17).
JWU forced 17 Warner turnovers, resulting in 18 points for the Wildcats. JWU also posted 15 second chance points to just four for WU.
The Wildcats will travel to Babson Park, Florida, to take on the Webber International Warriors on Saturday, February 1. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
