Wildcats Take on Coastal Georgia in Saturday Doubleheader

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (February 7, 2020) -- The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's and women's basketball teams travel to Brunswick, Georgia, to take on the Coastal Georgia Mariners in a doubleheader on Friday, February 8. Game time for the women is set for 12:00 p.m. The men's game is slated for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff.

JWU Men's Basketball

Redshirt freshman Negus Hazel registered a career-high 19 points to lead the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's basketball team (7-14, 3-10 TSC) to a 73-58 win over the Thomas Night Hawks (6-15, 3-10 TSC) on Friday afternoon.

Hazel was one of five Wildcats to reach double-figures in scoring in the game, shooting 7-of-10 from the field including five 3-pointers. Joining Hazel in double-digit scoring were sophomores Vince Ventulan (12), Kevin Rostamian (12) and Tristan Stephens (11), and junior Jordan Martin (11).

Ventulan shot 4-of-8 from the floor while recording team-highs in rebounds (8) and assists (5). Rostamian went 6-of-10 from the field with six boards and a game-high two blocked shots. Stephens shot 4-of-9 from the floor and Martin was 5-of-9 for the game.

With the game tied at 31-all after the first 20 minutes of action, JWU used 62.1 percent shooting from the floor (18-of-29) to pull away, out-scoring the Night Hawks 42-27 in the second half.

JWU ended the game shooting 50.9 percent from the field (29-of-57) and was 10-of-21 from 3-point range (47.6 percent). TU was 25-of-54 from the floor (44.4 percent) and converted 23.1 percent of its attempts from downtown (3-of-13). The Night Hawks held a 31-29 edge in rebounding however, JWU forced 19 TU turnovers and registered 11 steals in the game.

The win snapped a four-game losing skid for the Wildcats.
