Wildcats Host St. Thomas in Senior Day Doubleheader

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (February 19, 2020) -- The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's and women's basketball teams will host the St. Thomas Bobcats in a doubleheader on Thursday, February 20. Game time for the women is set for 6:00 p.m. The men's game is slated for an 8:00 p.m. tipoff.

Prior to each contest, the men's (Michael Stuart) and women's (Lexie Jackson & Amber Barber) basketball teams will honor their senior classes, which will be playing in their final regular season home contests.

JWU Women's Basketball

Last time out: The (rv) Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's basketball team (17-7, 11-5 TSC) punched its ticket to the Sun Conference Tournament as a Top-4 seed with a 71-59 victory over the Thomas Night Hawks (3-17, 1-15 TSC) on Monday afternoon.

The game was originally scheduled for Thursday, February 6, but was rescheduled for Monday after being canceled due to inclement weather in the area.

With the win, JWU (currently third in the TSC Standings) has clinched no worse than fourth in this year's tournament and will host the school's first-ever post-season game next Tuesday.

Three Wildcats scored in double-figures led by junior Tianna Ayulo, who notched 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor. The native of Hollywood, Florida, grabbed six rebounds, registered three assists and posted four steals.

Also scoring in double-figures were also sophomore Jordan McDuffie (16), and freshman Shykim Gillion (12). McDuffie shot 7-of-17 from the floor and notched four rebounds and three steals. Gillion was 5-of-13 from the field with six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Leading JWU in rebounding was junior Chrystal Pressley, who grabbed a game-high 10 boards.

JWU ended the day shooting 40.8 percent from the floor (29-of-71) and was 6-of-20 from 3-point range (30.0 percent). TU made 24-of-60 from the field (40.0 percent) and converted 36.8 percent of its shots from downtown (7-of-19). The Wildcats out-rebounded the Night Hawks, 46-38, including a 17-11 edge on the offensive glass.

JWU Men's Basketball

Last time out: The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) men's basketball (7-17, 3-13 TSC) dropped a 71-51 decision to the No. 21-ranked Southeastern Fire (21-7, 11-3 TSC) on Saturday evening.

The Wildcats were led by sophomore Tristan Stephens, who scored 19 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the floor and grabbed nine rebounds.

JWU ended the night shooting 31.1 percent from the floor (19-of-61) and was 6-of-26 from 3-point land (23.1 percent). SEU made 27-of-63 shots from the field (42.9 percent) and converted 42.9 percent from beyond the arc (9-of-21). The Fire held a 56-25 edge in rebounding and a 17-5 advantage on the offensive glass.
