Jackson’s Hat Trick Leads to First-Ever Win over St. Thomas, 4-2

– Sophomore Savannah Jackson's second hat trick of the season helped lead the Johnson & Wales women's soccer team (4-2, 1-0 TSC) to the program's first-ever victory over St. Thomas (3-2, 0-1 TSC), 4-2, on Wednesday evening.

Entering the match 0-10 all-time versus the Bobcats, the Wildcats trailed STU, 2-1, heading into the 62nd minute. However, Jackson scored three-straight goals over a span of 19 minutes to give JWU the 4-2 victory.

The native of Davenport, Florida, tied the match in the 62nd minute for her eighth goal of the season. Senior Carissa Sanchez picked up her first assist as a Wildcat on the score. Sanchez got JWU on the board early in the game, scoring her first goal of the season in the first minute. The quick strike gave the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead before the Bobcats took a 2-1 lead into halftime with goals in the 24th and 44th minutes.

Two minutes after scoring the game-tying goal, Jackson converted her third penalty kick attempt of the season to give the Wildcats a 3-2 advantage in the 64th minute. The eventual game-winner was the fourth of the year for the JWU striker and the 10th of her career. Jackson added an insurance goal in the 81st minute for her third goal of the match and team-leading 10th goal of the season.

Jackson led all Wildcats with six total shots (four on net) followed by Sanchez, who contributed five (three on frame). The Bobcats outshot the Wildcats, 16-14, and held a 12-9 edge in shots on goal.

Freshman Kellie Fitzpatrick (4-1-0) earned the win, making a career-high 10 saves versus the Bobcats.

The Wildcats will host Southeastern in the Sun Conference Game of the Week on Saturday, September 22, as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
