BABSON PARK, Fla. (Sept. 30, 2018) – The Johnson & Wales women's soccer team (6-3-0, 3-1-0 TSC) scored three first-half goals en route to the Wildcats second win this week, defeating Webber International (3-6-0, 1-3-0 TSC), 3-2, on Sunday afternoon.
The win marked the second straight for the Wildcats and was their third win in the team's last four outings.
JWU got on the board first with a fifth-minute goal by sophomore Savannah Jackson. The score was Jackson's 15th of the season and extended the Davenport, Florida, native's streak of consecutive games with a goal to four.
Carissa Sanchez gave the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage with her second goal of the season in the 23rd minute. Jackson set up the score and was credited with her third assist of the season. The second-year Wildcat followed that up with her second goal of the contest, scoring the eventual game-winner in the 35th minute. Senior Yaneli Montes earned her first assist of 2018 on Jackson's goal. The game-winner was the sixth of the season for the JWU striker and the 12th of her career.
The Warriors battled back in the second half, scoring a pair of goals in the 50th and 56th minutes to cut JWU's lead to one. However, freshman goalkeeper Kellie Fitzpatrick (6-2-0) and the Wildcat backline did not allow the equalizer in the final 34 minutes to preserve the one-goal victory. Fitzpatrick made six saves in 90 minutes of action for her sixth win of the season.
JWU finished the match with a 24-17 edge in shots and a 9-8 advantage in shots on goal.
The Wildcats travel to Miramar, Florida, to take on Florida Memorial on Wednesday, October 3. Game time is set for 4:00 p.
