WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 2, 2018) – The Sun Conference announced its 2018 women's soccer all-conference teams on Friday with four Wildcats earning all-league honors. Sophomore Savannah Jackson was named to the Sun Conference First Team while senior Carissa Sanchez and junior Sawyer Hall garnered second-team recognition. Senior Caterina Yibirin earned All-TSC Honorable Mention honors.
Jackson, a two-time first-team selection, finished the 2018 regular season with 24 goals and four assists for 52 points. The native of Davenport, Florida, set the single-season school record for goal and points this past year while ranking No. 2 in the conference in goals-per-game (1.60 – No. 5 in the nation) and points-per-contest (3.47 – No. 4 in the nation). Jackson, a TSC Offensive Player of the Week honoree (October 22), tallied nine multiple-goal games, including four hat tricks in 2018. The second-year Wildcat registered seven game-winning goals, ranking No. 5 in the nation in game-winners-per-match (0.47). In conference action, Jackson recorded 17 goals and three assists for 37 points. She was responsible for four game-winners versus league opponents.
Sanchez, who appeared and started in 11 matches for the Wildcats, tallied six goals and four assists for 16 points. The native of Miami was second on the team in goals, assists, and points. All of her points came during Sun Conference action, including a one-goal, two assists performance at St. Thomas (September 19) where she scored the fastest goal this season (27 seconds), leading to the Wildcat's first win in program history over the Bobcats (4-2). She also scored the game-winning goal as JWU blanked Warner (October 17), 3-0. Her 16 points tie a single-season career high for Sanchez.
Hall, who appeared in all 15 games for the Wildcats, making 14 starts, recorded four goals and five assists for 13 points in 2018. The native of Pembroke Pines, Florida, finished third on the team in points and goals and led the squad in assists. Her five assists were the most by a Wildcat since the 2013 season (Sara Troulliot – 5). Hall scored the game-winner at Florida Memorial (October 3) and set a career mark in assists with three versus Thomas (October 20). Her three-assist performance led to the Wildcat's first win in program history versus the Night Hawks. In conference play, the first-year midfielder registered two goals and five assists for nine points.
Yibirin, a two-time all-conference award winner, started in 11 games for the Wildcats on the back line. She finished the year with one helper, assisting on the game-winning goal versus Warner (October 17) as the Wildcats picked up their then-school-record fifth Sun Conference win of the season. Yibirin has been part of a JWU defensive unit that has shut out three league opponents while holding the opposition to a 12.9 percent shooting percentage. In the matches she has played in, JWU has registered a 1.81 goals-against-average with an 8-3 overall record.
The rest of the postseason awards, including Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, will be announced at the conference championship awards ceremony the night before the championship game.
The 2018 Sun Conference Women's Soccer Tournament begins on Saturday with two quarterfinal matches. The semifinals will take place at Keiser and Southeastern on November 6, with the championship match on November 9 at the highest remaining seed.
