Yibirin and Gant Named 2018 Daktronics-NAIA Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athletes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Nov. 30, 2018) – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its 2018 Daktronics-NAIA Women's Soccer Scholar-Athletes on Friday which included Johnson & Wales (Fla.) seniors Caterina Yibirin and Audrey Gant.

Yibirin and Gant are among the 732 women's soccer student-athletes recognized by the NAIA. In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

Both were also named to this year's Sun Conference All-Academic team, announced earlier this month.

Yibirin, a 2018 All-TSC Honorable Mention selection, started in 13 games for the Wildcats on the back line. She finished the year with one helper, assisting on the game-winning goal versus Warner (10/17) as the Wildcats picked up their then-school-record fifth Sun Conference win of the season. Yibirin was part of a JWU defensive unit that has shut out four league opponents.

Gant, who was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District I® Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA (First-Team District I), appeared in 16 games for the Wildcats, making 15 starts primarily on the JWU backline. The native of Plantation, Florida, recorded one goal and three assists for seven points in 2018. All three totals were single-season records for the Wildcat defender.
