JWU Women's Soccer

It was a back-and-forth affair but after 110 minutes the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's soccer team (10-2-1, 5-1-1 TSC) drew with the SCAD Savannah Bees (6-5-1, 3-2-1 TSC), 3-3, as both teams earned a point in the Sun Conference Standings on Saturday.

Prior to the match, JWU honored its senior class (Maria Salas, Sawyer Hall, Tyler Einsmann, and Ashlyn Hannus), who played in the final regular season home game on their Wildcat careers.

JWU got on the board first with a goal by junior Savannah Jackson in the 19th minute. The native of Winter Haven, Florida, converted a penalty kick attempt for her 37th goal of the season.

SCAD responded with a goal in the 32nd minute with a goal scored by Sam Manelis.

JWU regained the lead in the 52nd minute with freshman Versailles Clark's third goal of the season. On a corner kick by Einsmann, Clark flicked a header on frame to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.  Einsmann was credited with her ninth assist of the season on the goal.

The Bees responded again with a goal in the 54th minute as Manelis notched her second goal of the game.

Jackson gave JWU a 3-2 lead in the 66th minute with a header past goalkeeper Elisa Dogor. Junior Lizzy Madril sent a free kick into the area that connected with Jackson for the goal. For Jackson, it was her 38th goal of the year and for Mardil it was her fourth assist of 2019.

SCAD scored the equalizer in the 84th minute on a converted PK by Manelis (her third goal of the game).

Neither team could break the draw through the remainder of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods, resulting in the 3-3 tie.

Freshman Denise Mendoza (10-2-1) earned the draw, allowing three goals while making six saves versus the Bees.

SCAD held a 24-17 advantage in total shots and a 9-8 edge in shots on goal.
