KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Sept. 21, 2018) – Freshman Vanessa Orozco set the school record for assists, recording 52 as the Johnson & Wales volleyball team (6-8) defeated the Johnson (FL) Suns (3-12), 3-1 (25-16, 25-16, 26-28, 25-18), on Friday night.
The previous mark was held by Anissa Giammona who record 43 two times during the 2017 season (October 7, 2017 versus Johnson [FL] and October 8, 2017 versus SW Adventist).
The Wildcats used a strong performance from junior Sharell Nairn, who posted 22 kills in the match – two shy of the school record set by Nairn versus Trinity College last season (24 on September 22, 2017). The native of Miami recorded her 100th-career block in the match and had eight digs. Junior Sierra Mooney added 15 kills and two total blocks whiles sophomore Savannah Swenson notched 14 kills.
Sophomore Bianca Torres increased her career total in digs to a program best 616 following a 21-dig performance versus the Suns.
The Wildcats will head to Lakeland, Florida, to take on Sun Conference for Southeastern on Saturday, September 22. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
