NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Oct. 12, 2018) – The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) volleyball team (8-14, 1-9 TSC) travels to Lake Wales, Florida, to take on the Warner Royals (10-11, 6-4 TSC) on Saturday, October 13. Game time from the Turner Athletic Center is set for 2:00 p.m.
The Wildcats return to Sun Conference action after falling to Florida National, 3-0 (26-24, 26-24, 25-16), in non-conference action on Wednesday. JWU comes into Saturday's match, averaging 10.41 kills-per-set with a team hitting percentage of .146. The Wildcats are averaging 14.68 digs-per-set and have recorded 115.5 total team blocks.
The Wildcats are led, offensively, by sophomore Savannah Swenson, who enters this weekend averaging 2.85 kills-per-set. The native of Clermont, Florida, also leads the Wildcats in service aces (31) and is second on the team in digs, averaging 2.63 digs-per-set. Junior Sharell Nairn is second on the team, averaging 2.74 kills-per-set and has tallied 30 service aces on the season. The native of Miami enters Saturday's match as the program's all-time leader in kills (560). Junior Sierra Mooney is averaging 2.18 kills-per-set while leading the team with a .231 hitting percentage. The native of Middleburg, Florida, has recorded a team-best 53 blocks in 2018, tying the school's single-season mark set by Nairn last season. Freshman Vanessa Orozco is the team leader in assists, recording 531 (6.72 assists-per-set – No. 3 in the conference) in 2018. The native of Kissimmee, Florida, is also averaging 2.37 digs-per-set and has notched a team-best 10 double-doubles this year. Sophomore Bianca Torres added 19 digs during the Wildcat's last outing to increase her season total to 277 (3.51 digs-per-set). The second-year libero is JWU's all-time leader in digs with 719 heading into this weekend's action.
Series History: Saturday will mark the sixth meeting all-time between JWU and Warner with the Royals leading the series history, 5-0. The last meeting between the two schools resulted in a 3-0 win for Warner on September 15, 2018, in North Miami, Florida.
