WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 17, 2018) – Despite falling behind 2-0 to start the match, the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) volleyball team (8-16, 1-11 TSC) rallied to take the contest to four sets but fell to the Keiser Seahawks (14-12, 5-7 TSC), 3-1 (25-14, 25-11, 21-25, 26-24) on Wednesday evening.
Down 2-0, the Wildcats battled back in set three to take the 25-21 victory and cut the KU lead 2-1. JWU took advantage of six attack errors by the Seahawks to win set three. Set four was a back-and-forth affair that saw a tied score 14 times. The Wildcats hit a match-high .367 in the set, however, Keiser pulled out the set-four win, 26-24, taking the match, 3-1.
JWU was led by junior Sharell Nairn, who posted a team-high 11 kills with a hitting percentage of .321. Junior Vitoria Nicolau produced 10 kills and had eight digs. Sophomore Savannah Swenson notched a career-high 28 assists versus the Seahawks while collecting eight digs. Sophomore Bianca Torres was the team leader in digs, tallying 21 for the match.
The Wildcats ended the night hitting .193 with 36 total kills. JWU also produced 49 digs and 6.0 total team blocks.
JWU returns home to host St Thomas on Saturday, October 20. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
