NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Oct. 26, 2018) – Led by double-digit kills by junior Sierra Mooney (10) and sophomore Savannah Swenson (12), the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) volleyball team (9-18) defeated the Johnson (Fla.) Suns (7-18), 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-16) on Friday afternoon.

The duo of Mooney and Swenson combined for 22 kills with a hitting percentage of .382. Mooney led all Wildcats with a .444 attack percentage while Swenson hit at a clip of .345. Swenson also collected a team-high 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. The native of Clermont, Florida, added four service aces (tied for the team lead with freshman Adejah Charlemagne) as JWU recorded 12 aces in the match. Freshman Vanessa Orozco contributed 28 assists in the match to increase her team-leading season total to 626.

The Wildcats got things started with a 25-18 win in set one. Swenson posted a match-high six kills and five digs in the first set while JWU took advantage of nine attack errors by the Suns. In set two, JWU jumped out to a 10-4 lead and never looked back. The Wildcats used six services aces to pull away and take a 2-0 lead. In set three, the Wildcats committed just two hitting errors (.345 hitting percentage) and recorded five service aces to take the set (25-16) and the match (3-0).

JWU finished the afternoon hitting .235 while Johnson (Fla.) recorded an attack percentage of .000. The Wildcats held a 49-42 advantage in total digs and had 4.0 total team blocks to 2.0 for the Suns.

The win snapped a nine-match losing streak and moved JWU one step closer to recording the first double-digit win season in program history.

The Wildcats return to Sun Conference action, hosting the Ave Maria Gyrenes on Saturday, October 27. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
