NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (June 26, 2019) -- Head Coach James Exley announced on Wednesday the signing of Desiree Birriel, Nayelis Alvarado, Jelissa Soto and Jaida Young to the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) women's volleyball team for the 2019 season.
Birriel is an outside hitter from Apopka High School in Apopka, Florida.
"Desiree a well-trained kid with a lot of potential," Coach Exley said. "She's going to continue to improve as she gets to Johnson & Wales and is a good athlete."
Alvarado is utility player from Harmony High School in Harmony, Florida, and is a native of Ciales, Puerto Rico.
"Nayelis is a six rotation player who can swing in the middle, outside or right," said Coach Exley. "That also says a lot about her character that she is willing to fill whatever role her current team needs."
Soto is a libero/defensive specialist from Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Florida.
Jelissa is a confident player, as she should be, and she loves to compete and win," Coach Exley said.
Young is a middle blocker from Piper High School in Sunrise, Florida.
"Jaida is a good athlete with a lot of versatility," said Coach Exley. "She'll likely play in the middle but could also play right side and potentially even outside."
The 2019 season begins on Monday, August 19, as the Wildcats travel to Jacksonville, Florida, to take on Edward Waters.
