TAMPA. Fla. (August 9, 2019) -- The Johnson & Wales volleyball team has been selected ninth in the 2019 Sun Conference Preseason Volleyball Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league office on Friday.
The Wildcats return 11 letterwinners from a year ago, including seniors Sharell Nairn and Sierra Mooney. In 2018, Nairn recorded a team-leading 280 kills (No. 9 in the conference) which was the second-most by a Wildcat in a single season while Mooney led the team in total blocks (65.0 – No. 10 in the conference), averaging 0.65 blocks-per-set (No. 10 in the conference).
Coastal Georgia collected six of the nine first-place votes in the preseason balloting (coaches are not allowed to vote for their own teams) and easily stood atop the poll with 61 total points. Defending co-champions Southeastern and Webber International were next in line, with the Fire second at 51 points and the Warriors third with 48 points. Southeastern received two first-place votes and Webber notched the remaining one. Keiser and St. Thomas rounded out the top five with 39 points each.
Warner (35), Florida Memorial (23), Ave Maria (20) and Johnson & Wales (8) completed the poll.
