Wildcats Take on Conquistadors on Wednesday

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (September 10, 2019) – The Johnson & Wales (Fla.) volleyball team (2-3) returns to action on Wednesday, September 11, taking on the Florida National Conquistadors (7-5) at Bucky Dent Gymnasium. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.

JWU Volleyball

The Wildcats are back in action on Wednesday, looking to snap a three-match losing skid. JWU is coming off a 3-1 (25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23) loss to the Faulkner Eagles (3-4) on Saturday, August 31, in the team's final game of the 2019 Bryan Bash Tournament (Dayton, Tennessee).

The Wildcats were led offensively seniors Sharell Nairn and Vitoria Nicolau who both posted 15 kills in the contest. Nicolau hit a team-best .279 in the match, while Nairn corralled 21 digs for her second double-double of the year. Also reaching double-digit in kills was senior Sierra Mooney who recorded 11 kills on a .259 attack percentage.

Junior Bianca Torres led all Wildcats with 22 digs. Freshman Desiree Birriel also reached double-digits in digs, notching 13 versus the Eagles. The native of Apopka, Florida, registered a career-high 42 assists in the match – the fifth-most in school history and the second-most at JWU in a four-set match.

The Series History: Wednesday's match will mark the ninth meeting all-time between JWU and Florida National with the Conquistadors leading the series history, 8-0. A Look at Florida National: The Conquistadors enter Wednesday's match with a 7-5 record. FNU is coming off a 3-0 loss to Ave Maria on Friday, September 6.
