Nairn Sets School Record for Kills in 3-1 Win at Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla. (October 9, 2019)
– Senior Sharell Nairn registered a career-high and school-record 30 kills as the Johnson & Wales (Fla.) volleyball team (5-11, 1-7 TSC) picked up its first Sun Conference win of the season with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 18-25, 30-28) win at Warner on Wednesday evening.

Nairn posted 30 kills with a match-high .289 hitting percentage. The native of Miami, Florida, also collected 16 digs for her 10th double-double of the season. Joining Nairn in double-digit kills was senior Vitoria Nicolau, who recorded 14 kills versus the Royals. The native of Sao Paul, Brazil, registered 17 digs to go along with 14 kills for her sixth double-double of 2019.

Sophomore Vanessa Orozco tallied a match-high 46 assists versus Warner and registered 15 digs to registered double-double number seven of the season. Junior Bianca Torres notched a team-high 25 digs and was one of five Wildcats to reach double-digits in digs in the match (Torres – 25, Nicolau – 17, Nairn – 16, Orozco – 15, Angelique Davis – 11).

For the match, JWU posted 54 kills with 12 errors in 192 total attacks (.219) while Warner produced 53 kills and 19 errors on 190 attempts (.179). The Royals held a 115-95 edge in digs and a 6.0-5.0 advantage in total team blocks.

The win marked the first in program history over Warner (1-6).

The Wildcat will return home to host the Florida National Conquistadors in a non-conference action on Friday, October 11. Game time from the Wildcat Center is set for 2:00 p.m.
