NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (October 12, 2019) – Led by senior Sharell Nairn's school-record-tying 30 kills, the Johnson &Wales (Fla.) volleyball team (6-12, 2-7 TSC) made program history on Saturday, winning its first home-conference match with a 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-18, 25-23 ) victory over the Warner Royals (4-10, 2-7 TSC) on Saturday afternoon.
For the second time this week, Nairn posted 30 kills versus Warner, tying the career mark she set on Wednesday. This time the native of Miami, Florida, notched an attack percentage of .260 with 75 total attempts. Nairn also recorded 16 digs for her 11th double-double of the season.
Also reaching double-digits in kills were seniors Vitoria Nicolau (16) and Sierra Mooney (12). Nicolau registered a hitting percentage of .261 versus Warner and a match-high 24 digs for her seventh double-double of 2019. Mooney hit a match-best .360 on 25 total swings.
Sophomore Vanessa Orozco notched a school-record 55 assists versus the Royals. The native of Kissimmee, Florida, also produced 13 digs for her eighth double-double this year.
The Wildcats ended the afternoon with 62 total kills and 18 errors on 165 attempts (.267) while Warner had 49 kills and 20 errors on 159 total attempts (.182). JWU held an 81-71 edge in total digs and had 3.0 total team blocks to just 3.0 for the Royals.
The Wildcats will take on Johnson (Fla.) on Thursday, October 17, in Kissimmee, Florida . Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
