Nairn and Richardson Earn Sun Conference Player of the Week Honors

TAMPA, Fla. (October 21, 2019) – Senior Sharell Nairn and sophomore Jazmine Richardson earned Sun Conference Player of the Week honors for the week ending October 20 the league announced on Monday.

Nairn was named this week's Attacker of the Week while Richardson garnered Defender of the Week recognition.

Nairn finished this past week, recording 73 kills (4.87 kps) with an attack percentage of .382 to lead JWU to a 3-1 record. The native of Miami, Florida, also registered 56 digs (3.73 dps), had nine total blocks and tallied 12 service aces. Nairn began the week posting 28 kills in a 3-2 in at Johnson (Fla.) on Thursday. Hitting .575 in the match, Nairn also tallied 20 digs versus the Suns. A day later, Nairn helped JWU win two more matches, recording 16 kills (.467) versus Trinity Baptist and 22 kills at Trinity (Fla.). The fourth-year Wildcat notched double-doubles in both matches. She closed out the week with seven kills at Webber International to increase her season total to 355 (school record). On the year, Nairn has posted 355 kills (No. 17 in the nation), averaging 4.38 per set (No. 7 in the nation and No. 1 in the conference) with an attack percentage of .223. She also ranks No. 8 in the conference in digs, averaging 3.59 per set.

The weekly award is the third of Nairn's career.

Richardson recorded 36 digs (2.40 dps) and 14 total blocks (0.93 bps) to help lead the Wildcats to a 3-1 record this past week. The native of Brunswick, Georgia, also tallied 12 kills and had nine service aces. Richardson began the week recording a career-high 13 digs and four total blocks at Johnson (Fla.). A day later, Richardson had eight digs and a career-best seven total blocks (third-most in a match in school history) versus Trinity Baptist and notched 10 digs and two total blocks at Trinity (Fla). Richardson closed out the week recording five digs and one block at Webber International. On the year, Richardson has registered 78 digs (1.20 dps) and 25 total blocks (0.38 bps).

This marks the first weekly award of Richardson's career.
