James Exley

James "Jimmy" Exley enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Johnson and Wales volleyball team.  

Prior to JWU, Exley spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach with the Miami Dade College women’s volleyball program. In 2014, he helped lead Miami Dade to the National Junior College Athletic Association championship match. Also in 2014, James was named AVCA National Two-Year Assistant Coach of the Year. Exley helped lead MDC to the NJCAA National Runner-Up title in 2007.

He was an assistant coach for Miami Dade’s 1999 undefeated National Championship team. The Lady Sharks were 34-0 en route to the national crown that season. 

Exley also served as the program’s recruiting coordinator.  He has coached sixteen NJCAA All-Americans, one NJCAA Player-of-the-Year and six FCSAA Players-of-the-Year at Miami Dade, which posted an overall record of 284-51 during his tenure.

Exley was the head boys volleyball coach at Miami Coral Park Senior High School from 2001 to 2007. He led the school to a third place finish in the FHSAA State Championships in 2003 and 2007. His overall win-loss record was 161-31 in six seasons at Miami Coral Park. The team won district championships in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2007; and regional titles in 2003 and 2007.
